ABOUT MUSHROOM TINCTURES

WHAT ARE FUNCTIONAL MUSHROOM TINCTURES?

+

Functional mushroom tinctures are concentrated liquid extracts made from certain mushrooms known for health benefits beyond basic nutrition. These tinctures are one of the oldest forms of herbal medicine and are highly bioavailable – meaning your body can absorb their beneficial compounds easily. In a tincture, the mushrooms’ active components are extracted (in our case using alcohol and water) into a potent liquid form. This allows you to conveniently take advantage of the mushrooms’ vitamins, antioxidants, beta-glucans and other wellness-promoting compounds simply by taking a few drops or milliliters per day as part of your routine. In short, a mushroom tincture is an easy-to-take liquid supplement that delivers the powerful natural benefits of functional mushrooms in an efficient form.

WHY CHOOSE TINCTURES OVER CAPSULES OR POWDERS?

+

Mushroom tinctures are generally more potent and bioavailable than dried powders or capsules. Because tinctures undergo thorough extraction, up to ~98% of the mushrooms’ active compounds can be absorbed by the body, compared to roughly 50% from many powder or capsule forms. This means you’re getting more of the beneficial ingredients with each dose. Tinctures also contain a full spectrum of both water-soluble and alcohol-soluble compounds, so nothing is left behind in the extraction process. Additionally, liquid tinctures are easy and quick to take – you can drop them under your tongue or into a drink, rather than swallowing large pills or mixing powders. Because of these advantages in effectiveness and convenience, many experts consider tinctures a superior way to enjoy the health benefits of functional mushrooms. Overall, if you want maximum efficacy from mushroom supplements, tinctures are an excellent choice backed by both tradition and science.

WHICH MUSHROOM TINCTURES ARE BEST TO START ME WITH?

+

There isn’t a single “best” mushroom tincture for everyone – the ideal choice depends on your personal needs and wellness goals. Different mushrooms support different aspects of health (for example, Lion’s Mane for cognition, Reishi for stress relief, Cordyceps for energy, etc.), so the best tincture for you will align with what you’re looking to achieve. If you’re new, we recommend heading over to the scientific reviews pages we have provided for each mushroom, or if you are seeking general overall benefits, many people start with the 5-IN-1 multi-mushroom blend tincture that combines several functional mushrooms in one bottle. This kind of blend gives you a broad range of benefits – for instance, support immunity, brain health, energy, stress balance and more all at once. On the other hand, if you have a specific goal, you might choose a single mushroom known to target that area (e.g. Turkey Tail for immune support, or Birch Polypore for gut health). A lot of mushrooms work in similar ways - generally all are good for the gut microbiome, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antioxidant, immunity. Everyone is unique, so what works best for one person might differ for another. Don’t hesitate to consider your own health goals or consult with a wellness professional for guidance. But as a simple starting point, a quality blend tincture is a convenient way to cover your bases until you determine which particular mushroom(s) resonate most with your needs.

INGREDIENTS & QUALITY

HOW ARE THESE MUSHROOM TINCTURES MADE?

+

Our tinctures are made using a dual extraction process (also called double or even triple extraction) to draw out all the valuable compounds from the mushroom. In practice, this means we extract the mushrooms in hot water and in alcohol separately, then combine the extracts. The hot water extraction pulls out the water-soluble constituents such as polysaccharides (e.g. beta-glucans, which support immune function). The alcohol extraction draws out the alcohol-soluble compounds like triterpenoids and antioxidants (which can benefit inflammation response, liver health, etc.). By doing both, we ensure a full-spectrum tincture that contains the complete range of mushroom actives and maximizes their bioavailability to you.

Our process involves a long simmer of the mushroom in hot water (at least 48 hours at 60 degrees), concentrating that brew, and a separate long infusion in ethanol (minimum of 6 weeks); finally, the two extracts are merged to create the final tincture. This careful method means you get everything the mushroom has to offer – from immune-supportive beta-glucans to essential oils and phenolic compounds – in one potent liquid. We also use high-quality food-grade alcohol and pure spring water in this process. The result is a tincture that is both potent and shelf-stable, capturing the mushroom’s benefits in a form your body can easily absorb.

WHAT DOES A '1:3 EXTRACT RATIO' MEAN?

+

The extract ratio describes how concentrated the tincture is in terms of mushroom material to liquid. A 1:3 ratio means that for every 1 part of dried mushroom, we end up with 3 parts of tincture liquid. In other words, our 100ml bottles contain the extract of a significant amount of mushrooms – roughly 20 grams of dried mushroom (which is about 200g of the fresh mushroom before drying) is used to make each 100ml tincture. This 1:3 ratio is quite potent. By contrast, a higher second number would indicate a more diluted product (for example, a 1:20 ratio would use over six times less mushroom per volume than a 1:3, making it significantly weaker). Some lower-quality tinctures on the market might be 1:4 or 1:10, meaning they contain relatively less mushroom and more solvent . We insist on a low ratio like 1:3 because it ensures each dose delivers a high concentration of active mushroom compounds. In summary, the 1:3 ratio guarantees you’re getting a robust extract: one part mushroom for every three parts liquid, which translates to a strong and effective tincture, not a watered-down product.

POWDERS CAN BE 10:1 RATIO - IS THAT STRONGER THAN FUNG SHUI TINCTURES?

+

No! Simply put, 10kg of fresh fruiting body will be dried to make 1kg of dried fruiting body/powder. Our tinctures are made using this dried fruiting body, so the full amount of mushroom (say 10kg in this example) is used, it's just that it's dried before we soak it in the liquids. From there, the dried mushroom is combined with a certain amount of liquid - in our case 3 times that of the amount of mushroom, making a 1:3 ratio. Therefore the way of analysing powders vs tinctures to ascertain strength shouldn't be using a comparison of these ratios - they are very different parts of the process.

DO YOU USE THE MUSHROOM'S FRUITING BODY OR THE MYCELIUM TO MAKE TINCTURE?

+

We exclusively use the mushroom’s fruiting body (the actual mushroom “cap and stem”) in our tinctures, not grain-based mycelium. The fruiting body is the part of the fungus richest in the well-studied bioactive compounds like beta-glucans and triterpenes. In contrast, mycelium grown on grains can introduce a lot of starch and significantly dilute the levels of those active mushroom compounds. Some producers do use mycelium on grain in their products, but that often means a large portion of the final extract isn’t mushroom at all, but leftover grain starch. We avoid that by sticking to 100% fruiting bodies for our extracts – no grain fillers, no myceliated rice/oat substrate in the bottle. This way, you can be assured that what you’re consuming is purely the functional mushroom and nothing else. It’s all part of our commitment to a high-quality, efficacious product.

DO THE TINCTURES CONTAIN ALCOHOL? HOW MUCH, AND WHY IS IT USED?

+

Yes, our tincture uses alcohol as part of the extraction process – it’s an essential part of pulling out the full spectrum of beneficial compounds from the mushrooms, especially the non-water-soluble ones like triterpenes.

The final product contains approximately 25% alcohol by volume), but the actual amount of alcohol consumed per dose is very small. Here’s the maths:

• A typical serving size is 2ml.

• At 25% ABV, that’s just 0.5ml of alcohol per dose.

To put that into perspective:

• That’s similar alcohol than a ripe banana, which can contain up to 0.5ml of naturally occurring alcohol.

• It’s about the same as what you’d get from a glass of orange juice that’s been sitting out or lightly fermented.

• Even some types of sourdough bread, kombucha, or kefir contain trace levels of alcohol in a similar range.

For athletes, this is considered negligible and well within acceptable limits – you’d need to take hundreds of doses in one go to get close to the alcohol content of a single pint of beer. In other words, it’s a minimal, non-intoxicating amount that shouldn’t produce any noticeable alcohol effects.

Alcohol is included for an important reason: it’s the key to extracting and preserving certain valuable compounds from the mushrooms. Many of the mushrooms’ beneficial constituents – especially triterpenoids, antioxidants, and phenolic compounds – are not water-soluble and can only be extracted using alcohol by breaking down the chitin - the key structural component in mushrooms. By using alcohol in our dual-extraction, we ensure these compounds make it into the tincture in bioavailable form. The alcohol also helps keep the tincture shelf-stable (resistant to microbial growth) over time. If we didn’t use alcohol, you’d be missing out on a lot of the mushroom’s power, and the product would have a much shorter life span. So while we use a bit of alcohol in the tincture, it’s there to guarantee you get a potent, full-spectrum extract that stays fresh – all with no noticeable booze effect when you take it.

ARE THESE TINCTURES SUITABLE FOR VEGANS AND FREE OF ADDITIVES?

+

Absolutely. Our mushroom tinctures contain no animal-derived ingredients – they are 100% vegan-friendly. The only components are the mushroom extract itself (from the fruiting bodies) plus the solvents used in extraction (water and a food-grade alcohol or glycerin). We don’t include any honey, gelatin, or other common non-vegan additives; and there are no hidden ingredients. We also steer clear of artificial flavors, preservatives, or unnecessary fillers. In fact, the rich flavor of our tinctures comes purely from the natural extracts. Rest assured that all ingredients are clearly listed. In summary, these tinctures are clean and natural: just mushroom extract and safe, plant-based extraction liquids – nothing else. This makes them suitable for virtually all diets, including vegan and vegetarian diets.

DO THESE TINCTURES CONTAIN ANY 'MAGIC' (PHYCHOACTIVE) MUSHROOMS?

+

No. None of the mushrooms used in our tinctures are psychoactive, and they will not cause any hallucinogenic or intoxicating effects. We use only functional mushrooms which have health benefits but no psychoactive properties. There are no illicit or controlled mushroom species (such as Psilocybin “magic mushrooms”) in our products whatsoever. All our tinctures are made from legal, non-psychedelic mushrooms that have been safely used in wellness practices for centuries. So you can take our tinctures with peace of mind – they’ll help support your well-being, but they won’t make you “trip” or fail any drug test. They’re purely health supplements, not recreational drugs.

THE TINCTURE DOESN'T TASTE OR LOOK VERY STRONG - IS IT STILL POTENT?

+

Yes, a mild-tasting or looking tincture can absolutely still be very potent. In fact, our extraction process includes purification steps that result in a clear, clean-tasting extract without sacrificing efficacy. We filter out inactive plant matter, which removes much of the strong mushroom taste and color, but all the bioactive compounds remain in the solution. Other companies’ tinctures that have a very pungent, earthy flavor are often less filtered – essentially they contain more of the mushroom’s fibrous remnants, which taste strong but don’t add benefits. We prefer a refined approach: by using both the mushroom fruiting body and carefully extracting the full spectrum of compounds, we get an extract that is highly potent yet relatively mild in flavour. We avoid flavour or colour enhancement of any kind. What matters most is the content of beta-glucans, triterpenes and other actives in each dose – and those are definitely present at high levels in a quality tincture even if it goes down easy. So don’t worry if the flavor is gentle; that’s actually a sign of a well-purified tincture. You’re still getting all the beneficial compounds (in a form that’s much more palatable than an intensely mushroomy brew) – the effectiveness is all there.

HOW TO USE YOUR FUNG SHUI TINCTURES

HOW DO I TAKE THE MUSHROOM TINCTURE?

+

Taking our tincture is simple and flexible. The quickest and most effective way is to squeeze the dropper and release the liquid under your tongue (sublingually). Hold it there for a minute or so before swallowing. This sublingual method allows the mushroom extract to absorb directly into your bloodstream for fast results. If you prefer, you can also mix the tincture into a drink or food. Many people add their daily dose to a small glass of water, juice, or their morning coffee/tea. You can even get creative and stir it into a smoothie or add it to soups and salad dressings. The heat is generally not an issue as long as the liquid isn’t boiling – if you’re adding to a hot beverage, let it cool a bit first (below ~70°C/158°F) so you don’t risk degrading any sensitive compounds. For example, if you have a freshly boiled cup of tea or coffee, wait a couple of minutes for it to cool slightly before dropping in the tincture. Ultimately, take it in whatever way fits your lifestyle best – under the tongue for efficiency, or mixed into your daily ritual (morning latte or evening herbal tea) for convenience. Consistency is key, so choose a method that helps you remember to use it each day.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I TAKE PER DAY?

+

We recommend a dose of 2 milliliters per day for each mushroom tincture. This can be taken all at once or split into two servings (for example, 1ml in the morning and 1ml in the afternoon). One full squeeze of our dropper is just under 1ml so 2-3 squeezes daily is a typical regimen. If you’re just starting out, you might begin with 1ml per day to see how you feel, then increase to 2ml or more per day if needed. If you're using the 5-IN-1 tincture, you can build up to taking 10ml per day (2ml per mushroom), but start low and work upwards to this maximum whilst monitoring how you feel.

Some people choose to take a lot more in total, especially if they are combining different types of mushroom tinctures or looking to tackle stubborn symptoms. If unsure, take direction by your healthcare professional. Always check the product’s label for any specific dosage guidance of individual tincture. More is not always better – stick to the recommended range to avoid waste and to give your body the optimal amount it can use.

CAN I TAKE MORE THAN ONE TYPE OF MUSHROOM TINCTURE AT THE SAME TIME?

+

Yes, you can absolutely combine different mushroom tinctures – many people do so to harness the unique benefits of multiple mushrooms simultaneously. In fact, different mushroom compounds may work together synergistically (often called an “entourage effect” in herbalism), potentially enhancing overall efficacy when taken as a blend, which we feel gets exciting. This is another reason why we offer the 5-IN-1 blend and bundles.

When combining, a couple of tips: Although these are natural products, they are potent, and you don’t want to overwhelm your system on day one. It’s perfectly fine to take multiple different tinctures in the same day, or even at the same moment (you can mix them into the same glass of water or take them back-to-back) – just be mindful of the total volume you’re consuming and take note of how you feel.

In summary, yes you can take them together and many users report great results from combined usage. Combining tinctures can provide broader support (since each mushroom has its strengths) and is a convenient way to cover multiple wellness areas at once. Just introduce combinations gradually, pay attention to how you feel, and enjoy finding the blend that works best for you according to your needs at the time.

HOW LONG WILL ONE BOTTLE LAST ME?

+

It really depends on how much you take and whether it's 50ml or 100ml bottle - if you take 2 ml per day, a 50ml bottle will last just under a month, whereas a 100ml bottle will last just under 2 months.

CAN I TAKE THE MUSHROOMS CONTINUOUSLY FOR THE LONG TERM?

+

Whilst you can safely use mushroom tinctures continously, we actually recommend taking short breaks periodically, for example a day or 2 every month or so. This allows the body a brief rest to prevent any kind of tolerance from building up and can provide a 'reset' of your responsiveness to the supplement. If you're finding the tincture particularly valuable and don't want to break, it's not dangerous to continue on through, but a short pause can be useful in terms of observing and noting how you feel without.

WILL TAKING A TINCTURE BREAK MY FAST (IF I'M FASTING)?

+

If you are doing strict intermittent fasting (for example, time-restricted eating windows or extended fasts), you should be aware that yes, a tincture will technically break a fast. The tincture contains alcohol which is a calorie-bearing substance. The caloric content is very low – one serving (~2ml) of tincture has in the order of just a few calories (0.4g of alcohol is about 3 calories). However, even this small amount of caloric intake is enough to interrupt a true fasted state, especially if you’re fasting for metabolic or cellular health reasons (even a tiny amount of carbohydrate or alcohol can signal the body that the fast is over).

So, if you want to maintain a strict fast, it’s best to take your mushroom tincture during your eating window rather than while fasted. For instance, if you skip breakfast and only eat between noon and 8pm, take the tincture with or after lunch, or with your first morning coffee if that coffee includes some calories anyway (since the fast would be broken at that point). If you’re fasting only for religious reasons or a less strict protocol, you might consider the negligible calories as acceptable – but from a biochemical perspective, yes it breaks the fast. The bottom line: plan your tincture dose around your fasting schedule. The good news is the impact is minimal in terms of calorie load; but to be safe, treat it as you would food intake when scheduling. Outside of fasting contexts, the calorie content of the tincture is virtually nothing and won’t affect your diet or caloric goals in any meaningful way – it’s sugar-free and only a few calories per dose.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY TINCTURES?

+

Store your mushroom tincture in a cool, dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. A cupboard or pantry is perfect. The tinctures are shelf-stable and do not require refrigeration for normal use. In fact, we advise not refrigerating the tincture in most cases. Keeping it in the fridge can cause some of the natural compounds to precipitate (solidify/settle out), which might make the tincture look cloudy or develop sediment over time. Cold temperatures can especially make alcohol-based tinctures turn a bit lumpy or crystalized (more on that below), so room temperature storage is better to maintain a uniform solution.

If you use the tincture regularly (daily or a few times a week), definitely just leave it at room temp. If you anticipate not touching an opened bottle for a long period (say, many months), some people choose to refrigerate to potentially extend the freshness. In our experience, though, an alcohol-based tincture will remain preserved at room temperature for as long as you’d ever need, so refrigeration isn’t necessary. Should you decide to refrigerate an opened bottle you won’t use for a while, just be aware you may see some sediment form (which doesn’t mean it’s spoiled – it’s just cosmetic). Always keep the bottle tightly closed to prevent evaporation and contamination. And, as with any supplement, keep it out of reach of children. With these simple storage practices, your tincture will stay potent and pleasant for its entire usage period.

WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE OF THE TINCTURE? HOW LONG WILL IT STAY GOOD?

+

Thanks to the alcohol content which acts as a natural preservative, our tinctures have a long shelf life – typically several years unopened. Check the bottle for a “Best Before” date; you’ll usually find it’s 1 or 2 years from the purchase date. Once opened, the tincture will still remain safe to use for quite a long time (the alcohol prevents microbial growth), but for peak potency we recommend using an opened bottle within about 6 months. Over time, some of the more sensitive bioactive compounds (like certain polysaccharides) may slowly degrade, even though the tincture won’t “spoil” per se. Heat, light, and oxidation can, albeit slowly, reduce the strength of the extract after a bottle has been opened.

So, while you likely could keep using a bottle beyond 6 months with no harm, you might not be getting the full benefit of the mushrooms’ potency at that point. A good rule of thumb is: finish the bottle within half a year of opening to ensure you’re getting the tincture at its best. If you think you won’t use it up that fast, consider buying smaller bottles (if available) rather than a large one, or share usage with a family member to go through it sooner. Unopened bottles can sit in your pantry for a year or two without concern. Just keep them in a cool, dark place. As mentioned above, always check the product label for any specific shelf life info – but overall, these tinctures are one of the more stable supplement forms thanks to the alcohol, which is why herbalists have prized tinctures for centuries.

MY TINCTURE LOOKS CLOUDY OR HAS SEDIMENT AT THE BOTTOM - IS THAT NORMAL?

+

Yes, a bit of cloudiness or sediment in a mushroom tincture is normal and harmless. In fact, it’s a sign of a natural product without heavy filtering or artificial clarifiers. What you’re seeing are likely precipitated compounds from the mushroom – for example, polysaccharides or other constituents that can come out of solution over time. This tends to happen if a tincture gets cold (for instance, if it was refrigerated or exposed to low temperatures during shipping), or simply as it sits for a while because our extracts are very concentrated. Certain mushrooms are more prone to this; for instance, Turkey Tail tincture can develop floating flake-like particles that look quite odd. These flakes or sediment are actually the beneficial mushroom compounds we worked hard to extract; they’ve just conglomerated and become visible.

All you need to do is give the bottle a good shake before using it. Shaking will usually re-disperse the sediment so you get an even mix in your dose. If the dropper ever gets a bit clogged by thicker bits, you can unscrew it and rinse the dropper pipette in warm water to clear it out. Also, try to avoid storing the tincture in the fridge or in cold spots, as that exacerbates precipitation. But even if your tincture looks lumpy or has stuff at the bottom, don’t worry – it’s not spoiled and it doesn’t mean it’s low quality; quite the opposite, it’s packed with so much goodness that some has settled out. After a vigorous shake, it should be fine to consume. The taste and efficacy won’t be negatively affected by these natural sediments. In summary, cloudy tincture or sediment = normal. Just shake well before each use and all those compounds will be distributed in your dose. Enjoy the goodness.

SAFETY & PRECAUTIONS

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS OR RISK IS SHOULD BE AWARE OF?

+

Functional mushroom tinctures are very safe for the vast majority of people, and side effects are rare. These mushrooms have been used safely in herbal medicine for thousands of years. They are not known to cause the kind of side effects you might see with pharmaceuticals. That said, as with any supplement, a few considerations apply. If you have a mushroom allergy (which is uncommon, but possible), you should obviously avoid mushroom products – an allergic reaction could cause symptoms like skin rash or digestive upset in that case. A small number of people might experience minor stomach upset or loose stools when they first start a potent mushroom extract, especially at high doses, but this isn’t common. Most people tolerate these tinctures very well.

It’s always wise to listen to your body: if you notice anything unusual after starting the tincture (like an upset stomach, headache, or rash), discontinue or reduce use and consult a healthcare provider. Also, because mushrooms do modulate the immune system, those with autoimmune conditions or other serious health concerns should use them under professional guidance. Overall, though, these tinctures are considered low-risk. Allergic reactions or sensitivities are rare, but they can occur in some individuals, so that’s the primary side effect we caution about. Starting with a smaller dose can help ensure you don’t have any sensitivity. If you have any specific medical conditions, it’s a good idea to read the next FAQ about medication interactions and check with your doctor as needed. But for the general population, mushroom tinctures are a gentle and safe wellness supplement.

CAN I TAKE MUSHROOM TINCTURES WITH MY PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS OR OTHER SUPPLEMENTS

+

We are passionate and knowledgeable about mushrooms but we are not qualified to medically advise. In general, mushroom tinctures can be taken alongside most supplements and medications, but you should exercise some caution and consult your healthcare provider if you’re unsure. There are no widespread dangerous interactions known between functional mushrooms and common medications, but certain mushrooms can have specific effects that might add to or interfere with some drugs. For example, Reishi mushroom has mild blood-thinning and blood pressure-lowering effects, so if you are on anticoagulant (blood thinner) medication or blood pressure meds, you’d want to use Reishi with care and professional guidance . Similarly, because many medicinal mushrooms support immune function, individuals on immunosuppressant drugs (such as after an organ transplant or for autoimmune disease) should talk to their doctor – the immune-boosting nature of mushrooms could theoretically reduce the medication’s effectiveness.

If you are due to have surgery, it’s also wise to pause mushroom supplements beforehand (as one would with fish oil or other supplements) to avoid any issues with bleeding or anesthesia interactions. Chemotherapy patients should consult their oncologist before using mushroom extracts; while some oncologists incorporate them, others may have concerns about liver metabolism or interactions (Reishi, for instance, could put additional strain on the liver if combined with certain chemotherapy agents at high doses).

For everyday scenarios: taking mushrooms along with vitamins, other herbal supplements, or common over-the-counter meds is typically fine. Just inform your healthcare providers about all supplements you take, as a good practice. They may not all be familiar with mushrooms, but it’s important they know you’re taking them. Generally speaking, yes – you can combine tinctures with other things – but when in doubt, ask a qualified medical practitioner . If you experience any odd symptoms and you’re on medications, consider whether timing or dosage adjustments are needed. But the bottom line is these tinctures play well with most routines; just double-check if you have a complex medication regimen or a serious condition.

IS IT SAFE TO USE MUSHROOM TINCTURES DURING PREGNANCY OR BREASTFEEDING?

+

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, it’s important to be very cautious with all supplements, including mushroom tinctures. There is limited research on the use of most functional mushrooms in pregnant or nursing mothers, so the conservative advice is to avoid them during this time or use only under medical supervision. While certain mushrooms like Reishi have some history of traditional use during pregnancy, modern scientific data is essentially lacking. It’s understandably difficult to conduct clinical studies on pregnant women, so we don’t have robust evidence to guarantee safety. Because of this, most healthcare professionals advise against taking these kinds of supplements, at least during the critical first trimester.

Our stance is one of caution: avoid mushroom tinctures during the first trimester entirely. In later pregnancy or during breastfeeding, it’s not a clear yes or no – it should be a decision made with your doctor or midwife. If your healthcare provider is knowledgeable about herbal medicine and gives you the green light for a specific extract, then it may be considered. But absent that guidance, it’s best to err on the side of safety for your baby. The lack of data means we cannot confidently say it’s safe, and the wellbeing of you and your child comes first. So, we recommend pausing tincture use while pregnant or nursing, unless you have consulted with a qualified medical professional who has advised otherwise.

CAN I TAKE TOO MUCH OF THE TINCTURE? WHAT HAPPENS IF I EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE?

+

Whilst we have personally exceeded the dosing marked on the labelling and website and not experienced anything negative, one should assume it is possible to overdo it – taking far more than the recommended dose of any supplement, even a natural one, isn’t a good idea. Our mushroom tinctures are potent concentrates, and while they are safe, your body has a limit to what it can process. Taking excessive amounts could put unnecessary strain on your system. The liver and kidneys are responsible for metabolizing and excreting many of the compounds in the tincture, and very high intakes might overwork those organs over time. Just because something is 100% natural doesn’t mean mega-doses are harmless.

It’s best practice to stick to the suggested dose and not exceed the maximum recommended daily amount. If you accidentally take a little extra on a given day, there’s no need to panic – you’re unlikely to have any acute adverse reaction from a one-time higher dose. The issues with overuse are more related to chronic overconsumption. Some mushrooms in very large quantities could cause digestive upset or, as mentioned, stress the liver/kidney function due to the concentration of bioactive compounds. If you are new to mushroom extracts, it’s wise to start with a moderate dose and gradually build up as needed, rather than starting at the max dose right away.
